Is there a difference between the manual 5th gen vss and the accord type r vss from the u2q7?

Sure you need the bottom of the attachment vss with the top of the lude one. Bennyboy should know better as I'm sure he has had this done.

I'll try to remember, as this was a while ago now and my situation was a bit different.

I kept my original M2F5 gearbox, because I like the ratios, but had an ATR LSD installed.
When I originally got the car back the speedo was out a bit, not HUGE, but noticeable. So a quick call to PAW resulted in them sending a 5th gen VSS out to me.
Now, the part that makes the difference is the worm gear on the end of it. If you look carefully, you will see that you can remove I think either a small grub screw or circlip (cant remember which, sorry!) and slide the gear and the shaft out. :hurr:

You can then swap this over to the current VSS if required. There is no need to change the whole unit.

Speedo is now bang on.

So yes, after all that, this leads me to believe they are indeed different!

Thanks. I installed a auto to manual conversion and my speedo is out now. I have the same cluster/ gearbox and vss out of a donor lude and it was good then as i drove it to make sure the box was good. But now im about 10% too high. Seems to go more out the faster i go. Reads 33 at 30 and 80 at 70! I thought it might have something to do with fitting the ATR Final drive and LSD. But then the original 5th gen VSS just slotted right in and it does work its just too high.

So i need the ATR bottom of vss? and top of prelude? Or am i the wrong way round? Thanks for your help i appreciate it.

That rings a bell - the amount of error I mean. Yes, it still works fine, just it's not accurate as you've found.

The main difference here I'd think is you've changed the final drive, which I didn't. So yeah, perhaps the gear from the ATR VSS will solve your issue. Correct that you shouldn't need to change the actual VSS top part - just the gear and shaft that it's on. 8-)

You can buy the worm gear separately. Iirc it was about the same price as a second-hand vss
