Starting issue

Post by si import » Sun Jun 17, 2018 10:59 am

Hi guys after bit of help.
Recently the lude is been taking ages to fire and doesn't fire on first attempt. Can turn it over for 10 seconds and won't fire then have another go and just about starts .
This morning i went to go out to pick my son up and it done the same thing I drove couple miles up the road stopped at the shop then when I came back to it it wouldn't start.
The battery went flat I then jump started it and it started straight up .
I also noticed that when stationary it revs pay 6500rpm .
Could this be linked to my starting issue.
Before I look into it does anyone have any suggestions s to what it could be .
Sorry for the long post.
Cheers jon

Next time you fire it up, turn the key to position 2 then count to 10 and then try to start it up.

Not sure what the rev counter showing 6500 is but that sounds dizzy related.

Do you mean the Rev needle flicks up to 6500rpm, but it's not actually revving that high? That's a weird dizzy thing.

You're starting issue could simply be the battery doesn't have enough charge. These h22s do like a full charge.

Sorry didn't word it very well . When stationary the cars rev limit is 6500rpm but mine is allowing to rev to 8400rpm which is my rev limit when driving the car .
Wondering weather my crankshaft position sensor could could be an issue .
Thanks for the replys guys

Update . The revving issue is due to me having launch control on a switch.
when not triggered it removes the 6500rpm limit .
So just the starting issue to sort although tool my son to school in it this morning and it started straight up

Had it had a good run previously/recently?

I think I'd covered about 30 miles on previous run out in it so would have been up to temp etc .

I'm still thinking it could be the battery. I've had the same starting issues in the past on a couple Ludes. It's been the battery each time.

Next time it doesn't start I would narrow down whether it's lacking fuel or spark as a first point of call - carry a spare spare plug with you. Stick that on the end of one of the HT plug leads and hold it against the head while cranking.
If you have spark then its fuel, in which case the main relay is obviously the prime candidate.
If you don't have spark, then it's time to work through the ignition system...

I'll check the voltages on it before I start it next time.
I have a small race battery on it . Cheers for the help

I may well have a check of the main relay anyway just to see if it has any dry joints . I'll let you no how I get on .
Going to try take a look this evening .
Cheers mate
