Changed that replaced heater matrix and flushed the water system there is no oil in the water and no gunk on the oil filler cap I'm at a loss all I can think of is the radiator cap

only time i ever had a pipe burst open was when the head gasket had gone. Generally thermostats fail open (over cooling not overheating) and a busted cap i wouldn't have thought would raise pressure that high enough to burst a pipe - they are usually reinforced with a fibre inner liner.

a HG can fail in many ways, the age old symptom of oil/water mix is not the only indicator.

I once had a metro GTi where the HG perished, and water squirted out directly through a gap between the headlight and bumper, burning my crotch lol - bloody thing!

The last time i saw a popped rad hose the HG was well and truly gone (combustion chamber breach to coolant way), no oil/water mix in that case either. Also, upon fixing everything, i then found out the rad was split aswell (swelled up under pressure).

Just my experience of exploding pipes.

Old/knackered pipes tend to tear at the joints (near the clips) from repeated movements where the strain is the greatest. Exploded pipes tend to rip in the middle all the way along (from my experience).

sometimes the hoses just get to the age where they need replaced especially if theyve had oil leaking onto them- ive replaced 4 in my BB4 - the two small hoses at the oil cooler, the front rad hose and the hose from the side of the block under the dizzy ;)

One on the oil cooler and one that goes to the cold air intake that one was perished. When it over heats if I turn the temp. Up in the car it cools down

Could be an airlock and like andyjess mentioned worth checking the thermostat and rebleeding the system - turn the heater up to max when up to temp and bleeding it.
