Certainly looks like paint. Was the valve cover originally wrinkle red?

Would have been red yep!
Guessing this was why I was having breathing problems as it couldn't fit down pipe haven't taken catch can off yet to see if there is any of it in there (as it was 11pm last night)

I'd be surprised if that's managed to get drawn into the PCV, but certainly worth checking. Question is, how much more is trapped under the baffle plate? :?

Any ideas to flush it or going forward?

Cover off. Flush with petrol. New gaskets.

Yeah, I was going to say the only thing you can do easily is flush it through with a degreaser and hope you get it all. But there will be no guarantees you've got it all. It may never be an issue, but the only way to know for sure is unfortunately to remove the baffle plate. That means drilling out the rivet heads and then drilling and tapping to fix it back again.

I reckon a good flush 'n' shake should do it though ;)

What these guys said. Flush and shake. Brake cleaner works well as it evaporates if you can't get inside to wipe it out. Try to give it a good blow out with compressed air aswell.

When you change the rocker cover gasket, make sure you clean both mating surfaces down well (brake cleaner again works well) and put some small dobs of gasket sealant in the sharp corners of the gasket where it fits into it's slot in the rocker cover.
