Mystery dripping

Post by eddie_squidd » Mon Sep 17, 2018 5:57 pm

Hmmm.... something a bit odd just happened.

I had just started the car but not moved anywhere yet (engine was warm as had recently been out), needed to answer a phone call so got out of the car as the reception was poor, engine was running, aircon was on.

After about 30 seconds I noticed fluid (definitely not oil, looked like water) running out from under the car. I had a look underneath and there it was steadily dripping from somewhere aft of the front wheels, in the middle of the car. Turned off the engine, dripping stopped.

I had to drive home, only about 2 miles, engine temp normal. Arrived home, no dripping. Turned heaters to max, worked fine, no dripping. Turned on aircon, working fine, no dripping. Car is now resolutely not dripping and all seems normal.

Possible theories: leak from somewhere around heater matrix, some sort of aircon failure/fluid leak or could it just be condensation from the aircon?

It's all a bit odd. Anyone got any ideas?

Air con does dump (supposed to) condensated water every so often. Could just be that.

I think you are probably right. Have just been out to get some fuel and no more signs of dripping. The aircon had been running for about an hour before so it could well explain things. Thanks.

Our Integra does the same thing. I've not yet learned to worry about it.

Sounds like the AC dumping water if you ask me. It's a common over here as it is used more due to the heat. When you next see it dripping, see if you can locate where its coming from. It should be coming from an open drain pipe around the area that you have mentioned.
