Idle Bouncing 5th

Post by MumsPrelude » Fri Jan 11, 2019 4:27 pm

Hi,

I have had idle bouncing since I got the car from my mum. It's when the car is warm/hot. I did some reading on here and I see it's an talked about issue. I saw the diagrams and found the Fast Idle Thermo valve.

I removed the top plate and got the engine warm, I pushed down on the valve, i assume closing it, and the problem stopped. Is this likely to be a valve issue or one of the hoses, I appreciate you guys probably wouldn't know without seeing it.

After a quick google it looks like replacements might be an issue, is it the same engine in earlier models? any suggestions on where I can get a replacement?

Thanks.

not sure if it's permanently fixed but whatever I did seems to have worked.

you can adjust the fitv - although it says in the manual you cant do this - but you can - there was a guide on here - but from memory - you unbolt the fitv valve and take the top plate off and carefully using a wide blade unwind the cap - clean it all with carb cleaner and then screw the cap back into the valve til its fully closed down and then back it off 1/2 - to 1 full turn. Mind u the leak can be at the 3 orings between the fitv and tb and you can clean them up or replace them. :)

I think it was low on fluids again so I'm thinking there must be a leak somewhere. After topping up it bounces at cold ans not when hot!

The problem isn't consistent so I'll check if there's air in the system first, like that guy Eric says.
