Try cleaning idle control valve out first . Could also be an air leak .

check the FITV as well- once the car is up to temp then take off the air intake pipe and put your finger over the lower port inside the throttle body - if there is vaccum when up to temp then fitv is faulty/needs cleaned and then reseated(also worth checking the orings and cleaning up any corrosion between fitv and tb)- there should be vaccum there from cold but as the temp rises the valve closes and no vaccum should be present ;) if thats all ok then it could be iacv - again take it off and blast it clean with some carb cleaner. Also worth bleeding any air out of the coolant system.

Yep those, plus could be a clogged/faulty fast idle valve or air trapped in the coolant system

When my lude ran seriously low on cooling fluid, it started hunting.
But if you didn't have a huge gushing leak like me, or a persistent small one, then look elsewhere.

yeah ive just reset the fast idle thermo valve on my BB1 - hunting has totally gone and car feels so much better but must have screwed it down a bit too much as it doesnt operate from a cold start - overly fast idle has gone down from 2000rpm to about 1000rpm which is preferable imo- so i would say dont adjust the screw in cap down too tight although i did back it off a turn.
