Hello everyone.

Having looked through the forum for a guide, am I to assume that this American link is still the best one to refer to?

I have done it recently and I used the sevice manual as a quick reference, it might not go into as much detail as youtube vids or guides, but it is the Prelude bible. I think it is still available to download from this forum. Remember to only turn the engine counter-clockwise.

Two questions for you actually:

1. Am I right in thinking that I need some sort of special tool? If so where can I get one?
2. Where did you order the parts from? There are various kits at various prices on ebay etc but I don't know which are going to be comprehensive and of decent quality.

Once you get the manual and look under timing belt removal/installation the first page of the section tells you exactly what special tools you need, although you can get by without them.

Regarding parts, i live in Spain so i use spanish companies, but eurocarparts and the likes in the uk should have what you need.
Look up manual tensioner conversion at the same time as you might want to swap out the auto tensioner for the manual one while you are at it.

the only special tool i think you'll need is the crank locking tool to prevent it rotating whilst your trying to undo the crank bolt - i picked up a cheap one on ebay after i kept having to borrow Bri's old one

i'd have to double check if this is the correct one but this is an example

You need that special tool and the cam/tensioner locking tool kit is also useful.

Be aware that the crank pulley on these is F-tight. You WILL need a long bar and that tool, to get it undone.

Hi Drax. It's covered in the service manual IIRC (this tool is just a copy of the Honda oem tools).

You don't use all the bits on a prelude (that kit does B series as well).

The pin with the screw thread goes in the back of the block to lock the balance shaft (IIRC) and the U shaped bracket slips over the auto-tensioner before you remove it (if you buy a new one, it comes with a similar but lighter-gauge u bracket).
:think: I forget if you then use one of the other pins to lock the camshafts or not...
