ATR head etc into Gen 4 prelude

Post by Strangerover » Mon Apr 01, 2019 7:18 pm

Hi all,

Apologies for not being the most active member.... however i have slowly been buying parts for some upgrades...

I have a Gen 4 2.2 VTEC UK car

I have acquired an ATR inlet manifold, throttle body, head and gearbox...
link to some pics...

https://1drv.ms/f/s!AqABaiZT7LYEga1lxAOe5xxTWE9R6g

The gearbox swap easy enough, just need to bypass some pipes as I understand it.

The head should just bolt on ? I plan to swap all my sensors over....

The inlet manifold, while off the accord is different and I believe I need to change a few bits...
My questions.... can i simply fit my injectors as a direct swap ?? or whats the best solution ?
The EGR system... best way to remove it ?
IAVC (is that right ??) I have a different one so need an adaptor.... where can i get one.... ?

And any other general help appreciated.

I will fit new seals to the valves etc and have it all cleaned before fitting.

I also have a 4 branch manifold with a 2.5" downpipe to fit so will have an exhaust made and at some point remap it all to maximise the gains available....

(this was a car I planned to keep stock !!)

Can I ask what the reason for the upgrade is? I have a 4g 2.2, as well as a face lift Accord Type R, and there's not a great deal in it performance-wise. To answer your question, partly, the engines have a different stroke and compression ratio.

I can understand using the ATR gearbox, for the LSD, but I think it'd be more cost-effective to modify what you have than go to the length of installing an ATR engine. I've looked into it before, I contacted a specialist to get their thoughts, and they said essentially what I did namely modify what you have or be prepared to be somewhat disappointed given the effort. Fair play for having a go though......

ATR head etc into Gen 4 prelude

Hi
Well I got the box first, then was offered the cams, which i understand have a longer duration, I also wanted the inlet manifold and throttle body as have read its a performance gain.
The ATR cams have different springs.... so I got a deal on buying the whole head that way I have the correct springs.
Since the Prelude is my toy I want to fit the bits to it as I understand all are an upgrae over stock parts, the head I believe will simply swap and it was my plan to fit new stem seals so its easy to do that on a spare head....
the fun seems to be making the manifold fit. so its not the complete engine as that has some other mods needed due to the way they work the ignition (as I understand it).

I also like tinkering with cars so its a bit of a hobby :-) its been years since I modified an engine like this

Much better flow, frees up more power.

The head will bolt straight on yea,

the injectors wont though, you will need to fit some orings to create a seal on the atr fuel rail, and use some spacers if memory serves on the rail, i will check mine,
also you will need to port the face of the intake for the 345cc prelude injector spray pattern, and block off some air holes.
you can find this on the rosko racing website

and the iacv will need a relocation kit as the iacv will hit the firewall with an atr intake
this can be on the rosko racing website too

You could just fit the cams & 62 throttle body and 2.5" exhaust - ideally with a spoon P13 ecu or copy chipped ecu
Only reason to fit the ATR head is for the sprung lmas but as they are used they may need replaced.
Fitting the ATR inlet manifold will mean you need a tunable ecu so is far more costly but will give you better results.

Just use a block of plate if you want to delete the egr. some have kept the top section of the egr valve plugged in place so it doesnt throw a code.
H tune or ebay for egr block off plate and paw or rosko racing usa for iacv relocation plate. :)
