Cambelt time

Post by Hagland-BB4 » Tue Sep 03, 2019 11:49 am

Hi guys,
Does anyone have a solid link to a cambelt kit please and what is really needed.

This is for pushki silver car I brought. He owned it for 11 years and said he never done a cambelt change and there is no history of one being done so it still could be original.

What needs doing.
Thanks

Get a new cam belt, balance belt, water pump and definitely do a manual t belt tensioner..
Check to see if your cam and front crank seals are leaking oil as this is perfect time to replace these ;)

As for where to get bits from I’d probably just source parts of eBay as it’s just so easy and it’s all there..

Make sure you get a definite h22xx timing belt and water pump as H23 non vtec have different amount of teeth

OEM Honda timing belt and balance belt, or a good 3rd party manufacturer like Gates or Continental. Plus new OEM auto tensioner or a manual tensioner conversion. While you are there you might as well get the water pump done too. And since the valve cover will be off the valve clearances might as well be done too, its only a 5 min job when its all exposed anyway. I have never seen a H22 with that didn't need its valve clearances adjusted.

Like Drax ive always used Gates belts with no issues. :)
T226 for the Timing belt and 5235XS for the balance belt.
Do both belts as the balance belt will be at least as old as the cambelt....
I have a new manual tensioner kit and Honda Water Pump here if you need.
I would also recommend fitting the Honda crank pulley seal retainer kit.
I also have this part here. Can get you the part number if youd rather buy one from Honda.

I’m unsure about the h23 style manual tensioner that Vanzep is sell but the basic aftermarket one Is pretty simple, I have managed to adjust that type without removing the engine mount in the past with a stubby 13mm :)

newkid mentioned the other day how easy it was to adjust the timing belt tension - sounded very easy :) will wait for him to confirm this

youd need to buy the belts from ebay or motorfactors - i have balance belt here- gates 5235XS @ £10 if you want it.

the only other thing i can think of is you might want to replace the rocker cover gasket depending on how old it is - again i have one here if you need @ £15.
