Thermostat Spec and Coolant question

Hi fellas

Just doing the water pump on the car after a failure and whilst the coolant is coming out of the block slowly from the vacant pump area i am seeing Green coolant,no dramas there really but i had replaced the radiator the other week ran demineralised water in it twice before refilling with fresh Blue coolant,so no mixing went on and am thinking the thermostat has failed and not let the fresh in to the block and surrounds and probably set off the pump issue too.

Could that have been the case?

Its god knows how old and the gaskets not looking too intact so looking to pick one up tomorrow,is it the 64mm diameter then for the jap H22a?

I don't have a thermometer handy but observed it in hot water at varied temps and couldn't see any change.

Pretty shocked to see the Green stuff down there :o

Thanks

sounds like a possible blockage in the coolant system somewhere or the pump could have failed before the recent coolant change . On the BB3 i had recently i found the thermostat was stuck and not moving also the bleed nipple and thermostat housing was filled with crud which could only be cleaned out using a flat blade screwdriver to scrape it out. Cleaned it all out and job was good. You might need to run some pressuried water through the block to clean it out - should be ok to do as you have the water pump off already.
i have a 4th gen thermostat in the car ready to fit to the BB1 - i can get you the Honda Part number if you want.
I will also be renewing the hose that goes from the block under the dizzy as this is a common source of pin hole leaks that are difficult to trace - its is gates part number 18999 :)
Thermostat should open at 80 degrees c
