Hi all
Intermittently I turn the key and car will not crank - all dash lights come on normally
Ive found that if I bang and knock the auto gearlever it will soon start normally.
Also if I release the lever lock and move the lever around violently it will start when I go back to park
It is happening more frequently so I want to fix before I get stuck
If I push brake pedal I hear clicking in the lever assembly in time to my presses
What should I be looking for?
Congratulations to vtecmec for winning May/June's Lude Of The Month, with his DIY Turbo BB1 build.

Sounds like a switch in the lever assembly's not making good contact somewhere. I'd take it out and give everything a good clean.

Got it all stripped and don't see anything wrong... I'm going to leave the covers off and monitor for the next few days

So I have cleaned and checked all the items around the gear lever and have left the centre consol off for easy checking if it happens again...........and so far problem hasn't come back. Its starting every time.
I opened the small relay I found on the side of the lever and opened and cleaned the contacts.......it looked perfect though.
Maybe that was it

a can of electrical contact cleaner never goes a miss - as you've most likely found its either a loose connection, or corosion inside the inhibitor switch interupting the starter operation.
