Cat and battery light just came on. wont go off....

ARGH!
Right, I drove the car to mine this morning. All good. Gave the inside a clean ans the engine bay a wipe over.
I drive to fill up with fuel and the battery light and cat light came on half way there
I have checked the ground on the decat and thats tight. The car starts fine and seems to run ok but still both these lights are on...
Any help?
Am I able to drive it like this? or am i running off the battery as the alernator has died? whats the score guys!
Iv got tomorrow to get it fixed then its japshow

did you wash the engine bay?
could be some ground wires come loose maybe

Alternator!
I had the same when my alternator died on the 4G, and when the alternator belt fell off when my crank pulley failed on the 5G.
You'll be able to drive it untill all the battery power goes. After the rev counter and speedo dies you have 5-10 minutes before the enigine misfires and conks out.

drokk MY LIFE.
I didnt wash the engine bay. i sprayed a little silicone grease in there and gave it a wipe with a rag.
Iv not even had this car 2k miles and its one thing broken after another.....

have a goood lookover it as it maybe a loose connection as you have disturbed it all recently

oh. im a bloody fool then. still got a broken car though..
I damn well thought it was later in the year
iv got the battery on charge. Iv gone over all the connectors i can find. I will wait till the battery is charged and see whats what
Its weird that the cat light should come on.......when i can see the ground is good. does anyone know where the cat wire terminates the other end??

I've had this exact recently, and it was the alternator.
I also had the ABS and 4WS lights, but not sure if you have these?!
Best way to test is stick a multimeter on the battery with engine running, it should read 13.5-14v. If it's 11.5v or less then alternator isn't charging.
