Missing on one cylinder

Post by stinkypaul » Fri Jun 19, 2020 1:00 am

I'm currently back to square one.
After finding the distributor wiring in a bad way. Same thing blew my previous engine up, so attempted to fix that, except the new parts I bought were knackered, so rather than mess about further and lose more hair, I got a new, complete distributor.
It's running exactly the same (not right).
So tomorrow or the weekend I'll take a look at the injector.

Swap the injector to another cylinder, also look at the fuel filter (partial blockage) and the fuel regulator, particularly vac lines as they regulate the pressure.

Ah, fair distance!
If you were local I was going to offer to help investigate.

Thank you, I appreciate your offer. I'll keep at it when I have time.

Today I've checked the timing belt in case it has skipped a tooth but that's fine.

I've also cleaned the pcv valve, it was gunky but it's not that.

I guess next to check will be:
Injectors
iacv
fitv
egr
vac leaks

I'm leaning towards injector, that's the only thing left related to cyl 1, all the rest are generic or would affect all.

Paul i have a set of good condition 5th gen vtec injectors and the fuel rail but i dont have a 5th gen to look after anymore so they are surplus. if you think these would be of use in tracking down the issue then let me know and i can look them out and get them sent off to you midweek. Just cover postage. :)

Vanzep, thank you very much I really appreciate the offer. As luck would have it, I have a spare set.

Good news is, after swapping the injectors around and replacing the one on number 1 for one of my spares, the problem seems to have gone. :D

I'll take it for a drive later, but it runs and revs fine now, so I think that's cracked it.
