Oil Change - Feeling like a tosser

Post by David.slough » Sat May 26, 2012 3:25 pm

So 2nd request for help in one day (doh I feel like a tosser), I am attempting an oil change.

I have removed the drain plug and started to drain the oil, tried to undo the filter, its stuck fast!! I Know its anti clockwise to turn the thing but it wont budge and the ratchet it starting to deform the filter. Any advise as 1. its stuck fast and 2. access is a right bitch to turn anything anti clockwise.

Thanks

Stab it with a screw driver and that gives you something to hold on while you unscrew that mo'fo

^THIS

screwdriver will give you more leverage, once it moves, remove screwdriver and it will then turn by hand

Just as Nitin said, nice BIG screwdriver right through it (near the end though! Not too close to the block). Gives you a nice amount of leverage :) Beware though, oil will drip down the screwdriver!

What tool are you using to turn it? I got hold of a metal loop thing that you turn a screw to tighten instead of the old material one, I found that much better.

It was a chain ratchet, but the screwdriver worked a treat (and yes arm covered in warmish engine oil :) )

Rep +1 for the Nitin

Nice one :)

The one thing I like about working on the rest of the car is you can wash off all the dirt, when doing the oil it seems to stain your skin

Remember to do the new one up only hand tight, so that next time it's nice and easy to get off!!
