Hi,
I would like to take my engine out to paint the block as its a bit tatty.
Just wondering whats involved and how long it takes to get it out and back in again. Any tips/tricks
Even better if someone wants to do it for me. ;)
Cheers for any info.

Not worth it imo unless your planning on doing belts etc at the same time.

ive done it a few times - need to disconnect the driveshafts from the gearbox underneath (disconnecting the ARB helps do this) then unplug the loom from the car (keep it on the block when it comes out), take off air intake, disconnect exhaust mani, gearbox linkages etc, be careful you unplug everything down the back of the engine loom & vacuum pipes wise as something can be missed easily and then can break when lifting the engine.

once these are down, connect the engine crane on whilst the engine mounts are still connected, using a tilter on the crane helps as the engine comes out easier at an angle. once connected up, take off the engine mounts and lift away!...slowly though, best a 2 person job so one to lift and one to check for anything still connected, snagging, moving the engine around when coming up to avoid knocking anything etc.

If you take the exhaust and front mount away, you can paint the front of the block without removing it. A quality brush on silver enamel wont need much masking either.
