Quick question about timing

On the H22A is it possible to see the timing marks on the crank pulley and oil pump line up with just the cover removed?

on which end, the gearbox or cam gears side?

The cam gears, yes it is. You can also see TDC on the crank through the timing window on the flywheel. That would be an easier check.

Thinking about it, you might not strictly be able to see it because the balance shaft lower gear might be in the way, you might have to slide that back to check.

Yeah i just want to check its all in time as i have a sneaky suspicion someone did the belt in the past and didn't set it up correctly. So instead of comparing the cam gears line up with the crank pulley i can just check they line up with the + on the flywheel which should line up with the pointer on the block?

That's right. The flywheel can only go on the crank one way because it has a locating dowel, so it'll always be able to reliably tell you TDC.

Perfect that'll save me a lot of hassle, that is unless i then find out its out of time...
