Sounds like a tractor :(

Post by A1ex » Thu Jul 26, 2012 6:34 pm

So,

The gearbox sounds like a tractor :(

In 1st, 2nd, 3rd it sounds really rough but out of gear it sounds fine so I think the tranny in making a bit of noise. Went to halfrauds earlier to pick up some tranny fluid but the book was about as much use a chocholate tea pot

What do you guys put in your boxes? Should I just put some slick 50 in? Some guidance would be greatly received :)

I've only ever used standard 10/40 semi synth. 12 years and its not caused gbox issue. I've known others to use the same.

Sorry to hear you've got a problem. To me it sounds like more than an issue that can be fixed by changing the oil.

Edit: I'm only talking about manual boxes

the best is honda main dealer MTF 2 only £12 a ltr you need 2.
or very good results from Amisol MTF :)

It looks like it leaking oil so was going to put some in and check where the level was/is.

Sorry to hear that but look at this way, you can build a new gearbox with LSD.

there is no way of checking level on manual box as fill is hard to get to and drain will just let it out ;)
so just worth checking seals and refilling with 2 ltr of MTF!!!

auto box has dipstick and can be topped up and has to be cause level only has to drop 1mm and gearchange gets ropey!
