Trying to find a standard exhaust that fits - NOW SORTED!

Post by Animal Mother » Wed Oct 24, 2012 11:15 am

We've now tried a couple of exhausts (standard) and they just aren't fitting properly. They keep fouling the trailing arm. :x

I'm looking for a good source of a reasonably priced standard exhaust (so not the £380 option from Honda).

My cat has a flange on it, it looks like the original Honda item.

Any ideas?

Is this when it is jacked up? How bad is the fouling? What exhaust have you tried? Are they from UK auto preludes?

Yes, when up on a lift (2 poster that lifts on jacking points).

They are pattern parts. We supplied them with the reg number so they should be for an auto.

Just checked Lings for part numbers and all 1997 2.2 cars had the same exhaust regardless of AT/MT or 4WS.

 I was just doing the same thing, I have stored the info in the Wiki http://www.ludegeneration.co.uk/wiki/in ... n_exhausts

Is the fouling stopping you from installing it? Once the car sits back down again it will be fine. I had the same (or similar) when fitting my aftermarket exhaust on my 4G. The back box pipe was hard against the lower arm, the exhuast bushes were stretching. Once the car was on the ground all was fine.

I'm not entirely sure as it's my dad trying to fit it, and swearing a lot. I'll ask him and tell him your advice.

The box was still hard against the bottom arm even with suspension at normal height so we've sent that back and ordered a Powerflow direct replacement instead. It already looks better, even off the car.

I'll definitely keep that in mind if I'm not successful with the powerflow.

Sorted now. The Powerflow fitted a treat. It even looked like the original.
