*URGENT* Clutch Cable/No Pressure In Pedal

Post by Roystan » Wed Dec 05, 2012 9:29 am

To summarise...

My clutch pedal in non responsive. Theres no pressure and i can't get the lude in gear.

Couldn't see the clutch cable earliar.. but thats because i didn't know exactly what i was looking for.

Could it be that the clutch cable has snapped?

The pedal just drops to the floor with no pressure whats so ever.

The clutch is hydraulic, there is no cable. Check the drivers footwell for any leaking fluid.

Also see if there is any fluid in the reservoir:

interesting. Didn't know that.

If there is a leak what would be the fix/cost?

it's a 1993 2.2 UKDM btw. forgot to mention that bit.

It depends whats up and if you want a brand new part to replace it. You'll need new fluid also. Fingers crossed its just the master cylinder. http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_trksi ... &_from=R40

You need to find where the leak is coming from. There is the master clyinder, a load of pipes/ hoses for the clutch dampener, and the slave clyinder. Check for leaks here and in the drivers footwell. If you have a copy of the service manual look at section 12-2 which will show you what you are looking for.

This is the master cylinder on the engine side of the bulkhead/firewall. Its on teh drivers side ;).

The slave is practically the first thing you see on the bellhousing when you lift the bonnet. Check under the rubber boot for leaks. You can trace the pipe back from there.

If the fluid in the reservoir is black, it ought to have been changed years ago. Then your seals have probably failed. It's frequently overlooked.

One more thing. The fact theres no pressure on the clutch pedal, does this rule out that the Clutch is fcked?

You've got to think it through systematically; there is the actuation system (master/slave cyls) and the clutch plate/disc/bearing/fork assy.

You'd have an entirely different set of symptoms (slip, noises, NVH) if there were a problem in the latter.
