P13 Spoon chip, genuine?

Post by Bio » Sun Dec 23, 2012 8:58 pm

So, I bought a P13 on Ebay as I was considering switching out because my immobiliser keeps giving me issues.
It's got yellow spoon stickers on the outside of the chassis but it's been messed with before as some of the lid screws were missing and the stickers cut.

Question is, can I tell if it's genuine or fake without any equipment?
Additionally its for a 2WS 'Lude so I don't think it's any good for me anyway?

Here is the chip:

If anyone has any thoughts or input it's appreciated. If it's not gonna work I'll just sell it anyway :)

You'd need a conversion harness as your car is OBD2

And 4ws has nothing to do with the ECU it has it's own separate ECU in the boot (On a 4g, not sure where it is on a 5g)

Not that I know of Merc, came from a breaker on Ebay, I guess it's possible that it's his though?
The outside of the shell is pretty corroded but not like I'll ever see it.

Cheers Ammo. I had imagined that the primary ECU might have sent some kind of speed sensor info is all.

I was looking at that earlier vtecmec. So many fakes that aren't copies of an original floating around so I wasn't sure if I should really invest the time in getting it into the 5G.
Ideally I'd like to do a dyno day and try with original and replacement ECU's to see if there is much in the way of gains or losses, but I think I'd have to do something with the knock sensor to get it running right on the 5G? I also still need to find a reasonably priced harness as I don't fancy making one

There are some gains, Lower vtec engagement, and a better map, BUT just sticking one in a stock car won't get all the benifits, they need other mods to make the most of it, main reason we chip JDM 4g's with spoon chips in the UK is that they are from Japan so are limited to 112mph, these chips remove that limiter

I have not seen a P13 sucessfully installed in a 5G yet. Mills already tried the straight swap with no sucess.

mills wrote:yes mate, next on the list is a spoon chip 8) but as nobody has tried it in a JDM 5th gen yet, im gonna be the guinea pig and give it a try
i was hoping to have got the ball rolling by now but ive been mega busy

size difference - is bigger better :?

so the results :!:

not good at the moment  plugged in the P13, started up the Lude and the check engine light came on, and its also idling a bit lower. when giving it a gentle press on the pedal to bring the revs up a bit, it seems to be a bit hesitant and spluttery. so now i need to pull the codes, as it could be a problem thats easily rectified

anyway, took it for a steady drive up the road, and it drives fine. but on the way back down, i thought i would plant it a little, to see how it goes and more importantly to see if the VTEC crossover had changed at all  unfortunatley there is no VTEC  and it feels underpowered. could the car have gone into safe mode :?:

thats it for now until i manage to pull the codes.

Cheers merlin. Been a while since I went back on PUK to look for anything after moving to here. I have a 98 so no knock sensor, should be worth a punt and at least I could pull the CEL as looks like Mills never did pull his.
Then if nothing else we get the information out there in t'interwebs.
