CEL light

Post by mart609 » Fri Jan 04, 2013 1:54 pm

Getting a CEL light after about 5mins of driving. Happened the last 3-4 times I've drove the lude so just did the paperclip test and got the codes. It's throwing up 2 codes
1 and 12

Code 1
1 Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S)

Code 12
and 12 Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR VALVE LIFT SENSOR)

I had code 12 earlier in the year and cleaned my EGR so I'm thinking maybe I forgot to clear the codes and thats still the old code stored.

So code 1

what is it? where is it? and how do I fix it ? :D

Should be just before the flexi on the downpipe.

If your not sure if the EGR is an old code I would clear the stored codes and go for another drive and wait untill the CEL appears again.

I ordered an OEM lambda sensor for my BB4 from RockAuto in the US (NTK/NGK part # 24169).
It cost approx' £60 and was delivered within a week if I remember correctly. ;)

I had a new O2 sensor fitted at PAW in June :/

How do I clear the codes? disconnect the battery for 10 mins?

Or pull the 10amp fuse in the top row of the under bonnet fusebox for 10 mins. It should be cleared in about 30 seconds, but I usually leave it longer to be safe.

10-20 seconds. You can pull the clock/radio fuse instead (inside the engine bay fuse box, top row, 10A fuse).

Might be a good idea to check wiring to the o2 sensor. Could be just a faulty connection
