Hi Guys , I have a 98 plate lude with just over 65K on the clock she is in great nick but I would like to improve the BHP if I can. Where would you start and I know replace the engine with a 2.2 Vtec is a good answer but this is in good order so any help would be great.
Thanks

Breathing is always the first place to start, so a decent stainless exhaust, maybe a decat if you can be bothered with swapping it back at MOT time, and then a decent (non-ebay special) induction kit, ideally drawing cold air from behind the bumper. But that's where I'd recommend drawing the line with the 2.0 lump. You'll probably only gain 5-10bhp providing you go for quality breathing aparatus... Any more than that and you're easily looking at more expense than dropping an H22a in with lesser gains.

EDIT: Or there's adding a turbo like Alex suggested

Check out Cebuls profile thread. He has the polish f20a4 and is running around 150hp with his mods.

I hate to be the negative nelly but sell up and buy a 2.2 VTEC car. It will be cheaper and easier any way you cut it. As a 2.0L your car has smaller front brakes and have 4 stud wheels. 2.2 VTi's are cheap at the moment so your not looking at much to get one. Plus you'll get all the toys that come with the VTi.

He sure can.

I would have thought selling up and buying a 2.2 VTi will only cost £200-£300 over the top of what the 2.0 is worth. I doubt you could build a 2.0 turbo for £300 and have it as reliable, good on the fuel, and roughly equal performance. But that is my thinking :? Sorry we have wandered off what mods the guy can do to his 2.0

I agree with Merlins beard. H22 swap if you want the performance for price.

its easier said than done selling a 2.0 and finding a decent 2.2 lol if your planning a transplant then yes it is easier to do it in theory but not in practice.
Maybe you just need a decent filter exhaust and suspension package make the most of what you have the 2.0 is no slouch.
