Resonator removed, but.....

Post by Nik_L » Sat Jan 26, 2013 6:46 pm

Ok, so removed the airbox resonator from behind the bumper.

But what do i do with the vacuum pipe that went into the actuator thing?? Ive plugged it with a bolt, but should i be leaving it open without a bolt in it??

Also, with the resonator and all the other stuff removed, the Type S intake roars a bit more now when it hits the vtec change-over point. Still don't think it will be a patch on an AEM though lol.

I blocked off the vacuum pipe and moved that box out of the way.

Yes it does sound a bit raw but that's nothing compared to an aftermarket induction kit.

yes block the vac pipe. :D

What do you want? a sharper response, smooth rev curve, CAI and a bit more of that lovely induction noise?

or spend £200 and get the same response (heatsoak) a slightly lumpy curve, Hot air intake and an extra 20% onto the noise?

IMO the oem intake is a winner compared to the 'in bonnet' draw of the AEM.

Also be aware that not all h22's sound the same when you take the resonator off. having had three type S this one has almost no change to its sound with or without (built by PAW) where as my last one sounded like a snorting tiger with slapped balls with the hammer down but was not as smooth running.

the oem intake will offer better over all performance than the AEM without a tune up imho.

and its free.

If all you want is more noise then buy an ebay special and smile all the way down the road.

^ +1.

R&D by a large corporation isn't cheap and isn't for no reason.

This is why I like my AEM V1. Filter sits where the OEM resonator lives ;)

Sounds great, no heatsoak issues

Im very happy with my current intake, and happier now. It seems to be louder now, yet still drives the same as what it did with the resonator, no change in performance through the rev range.

But.....i would still like to try an AEM to see what the hype is about.

^ on Honda Tech too, a whopping increase of 0.36hp

Not worth £200 if you ask me.

I think the noise is worth that and you can get a second hand one for £100-120. It looks nicer in the engine bay, noise is epic and it's an increase in bhp (even if its tiny) lol

I'm going for the one piece long arm Aem intake. :)

If I'm gonna spend £100 on a noise it should be to either shut it up or put my wang in it. :|
