Right, so my 1997 Lude has an H22a5 engine (i think), but upon receiving the V5 for the car, the engine number on that starts h22a2-1001444.

I would have thought it was h22a5-1001444.

Or does the first 5 digits not necessarily stand for the engine code.

the first 5 are the engine number. I would check yours. Its located to the left of the manifold on a small flat area about 1" by 1.5". Compare the number against the log book

The first 5 are the engine CODE
The following digits are the actual build number.
Combine the two and you have the FULL engine number

Only way to know wat exactly you have is to check the number on the engine block. It's entirely possible that the original engine has been replaced with an H22a2. Spec of these is essentially the same (compression, power etc).

Yeah, just had a look and its an h22a5. The rest of the numbers (below the h22a5) all match up too.

It was reg'd on 10/8/1997 if that makes it an early car.
