Balance Shaft Seal Install

didn't get much help in the other forum so asking the help of my friends across the pond.

Me and a buddy replaced all the seals this past weekend, along with all the belts. The original seal was flush with the oil pump, when I was taking it out I noticed that it was possible for the seal to go back in further. The new seal is push in as far as it goes. Is that how its suppose to be, or should i get another seal and redo it.

All parts used were from honda.

I'm pretty sure it should be flush with the block. Does the manual not mention anything?

I'm not sure it matters, as long as the seal is in correctly - however all the picture's I've ever seen show it being flush with the block:

i dont remember reading anything about this in the manual but maybe i missed it too

seems natural to push any seal right up against the shoulder or lip that way you ensure the seal isnt installed at an angle
ive fitted mine the same way as shown in the pic above
one thing i do remember reading was that you are meant to put a thin light coating of something around the seals before installing them...i remember this cause i read it after i had done the seals and hadnt used any

The manual doesn't say anything about how far it should go it, but it say a special tool is needed. I just used the old seal and a big socket and tapped it into place. its even all around.

The manual says to use a thin coat of grease on the outer lip of the seal and some on the shafts.
