4th gen reverse problems

Hi guys, so ive got the dreaded reverse problem today, just point blank refuses to go in reverse, its a m2a4 non lsd gearbox, any suggestions as to what it could be are greatly appreciated,

Check the linkages at the gearbox end are attached ok, then have a look under the gaiter to check everything's in order there too.

has th car had a hard life? also does it select 5th ok?

If it selects all the other gears ok at standstill them it's most likely the 5th/reverse synchro hub sleeve that's got damage. The teeth burr over and prevent the sleeve from sliding across the hub

the car seems to have been well looked after, if it is the synchro hub sleeve thats damaged ill try and find a lsd box for it

and it selects 5th, perfect phil, all the other gears are lovely, no crunches anywhere,

Simple thing first... With the car stationary, select 1st, then reverse. If not try 1st, neutral, lift and dip the clutch several times, then reverse.
Is the clutch biting point low to the floor?
Does it go in easy with the engine off?

afternoo folks, after bringing the lude homefrom work, it now doesnt want to select 5th, and it seems to be rumbling, i geuss the synchro hub has gone so im going to have to pull the box out and have astrip down,

Since it's a non-LSD box I would consider buying a new gearbox rather than rebuiliding your existing one. For example I got a whole M2P4 for £50

That way it's a straight swap with less time off the road.
