a8 cat back on an a5?

I read merlins thread that show the part numbers for the a8 and a5 exhaust system are different.

I remember there begin a thread saying an a8 cat back wouldn't mate up to cat and manifold from any other model but can't find it and can't remember why. Could someone please enlighten me

The OEM downpipe, CAT, and midsection are different sizes. You can't mix and match parts but you can swap a complete system over. Both exhaust systems are 2.0".

Ok cheers. So the back boxes and interchangeable? Is the a8 cat back longer or shorter?

The a5 and a8 back boxes are the same but the a8 midsection is shorter to make up for the longer downpipe and CAT.
