gearbox
first thread from me on ld , although i have aslo posted this on puk as my last thread on puk
right here goes.
the senario, im traveling along in my auto lude, say im doing 65mph, if i floor it it will downshift to 3rd till it reaches around 7250rpm then shifts to 4th but falles out of vtec, but if im doing 65mph then manually shift to 3rd it will rev to say 7250rpm and i then shift it myself to 4th, but now the auto box finds a gear between 3 and 4 and stays in vtec how?

i know this is an obvious question but when your letting the box shift itself are you letting off the throttle? what i am trying to say is there any difference in your right foot between the 2 scenarios?

well the sports shift will try to keep it in the power band its all down to the auto ecu and fluid dynamics

on kickdown it will only shift to gears that would be below 7000rpm, that can be 2 or even 3 gears. the owners manual suplied with the 4g lude does mention these inbetween gears but i cant remember what it says, the only bit i remember is a mention of a sports sequencial box and the torque converter, i cant find the book now. what im wondering is has anyone hacked into the controller for the auto? the reason i ask is 2 days ago i was building a spreadsheet for all the lude boxes to compare the lenght of time each box stays in vtec, all manual boxes fall out of vtec between shifts in 1,2 and 3 but stay in vtec between 3, 4 and 5, some only between 4 and 5, the auto will fallsout in all gears but are longer gears, so in total the time spent in vtec was almost the same, but if i can persuade the auto to use these inbetween gears then it could in theory go from around 20mph upwards without leaving vtec i was also contemplating the idea of switching my shifter to a flappy paddle on the steering wheel but first i need to know if its possible to change the auto ecu in any way
