So,

Does the chip 'learn' as mods are made beyond the existing tune? Or if it's mapped, for 228bhp in my case, irrespective of what parts you put on it's still deliver 228bhp?

If you want to get the best from new mods you need to have it retuned.

/\ this.

Plus that tune won't hold forever as your engine is used, parts wear, oil is changed, blah, blah, blah. Over time of course, but still.

But I wish it was as simple as it 'learning'.

I knew that bit, was just curious. Wouldn't be much point in tuning the motor for changing a type s air feed with resonator & mugen mani to a CDA w/o resonator & tri y header. Was just wondering if it would see any benefit before tuning.

It's dubious IMO, although not like any of us are expert tuners or anything.

The idea was to get the tri y on for part 2 of my engine build to get the most out of it. Would be nice if it made a little extra too but no biggie if it doesn't.

Was curious how the ecu would perform without further tuning

Wouldn't it (in an extreme case) throw the A/F ratio out if it's all of a sudden breathing a lot better and therefore be a little laggy.
