This is rubbish, I converted by 5th gen SIR to auto well over 4 years ago and it had not missed a single beat with the conversion in that time :D

It is true that the 5th gen auto chassis does not have some of the bracing that goes from the top of the clutch and brake assembly and runs up and is spot welded to a hefty cross member under the dash. But all you do is take the brace bracket from the donor vehical, by drilling out the spot weld and then fit it in yours. You can either weld it back, but that is a dash out job and a ball ache, or do what I and others have done it fix it to the car by really big metal self tapping screws to hold it in place, works a charm :D .

easy newkid, dont go off on one again  :P

there was a guide on PUK

Basics and big stuff;
gear box
clutch
flywheel
gearbox bolts
flywheel and clutch bolts
clutch master and slave cylinders
clutch line, either OEM or a flexi (i am using the later as its easier)
manual starter
pass side drive shaft and intermediate shafts
gear linkages (these are different between 4ths and 5ths)
clutch pedal
brake pedal i think
gearbox mount
relevant attaching points for the gear linkages
manual ECU or you can i believe convert the auto one
manual clocks
manual gear stick surround(you maybe able to use the auto one but for ease i sourced a manual one)
cruise control clutch micro switch

there is probably a tonne more but this is off the top of my head!

gives you a starting point though :P
