Nasty noise H22a! Any ideas?

Hi Guys,

Supposed to be getting 'The Dog' running a bit better this next few weeks, but it's started making a horrible clackety noise at the bottom end.

So don't know if it's even worth spending any money on it now.

This sounds pretty ominous to me. Have no idea what it is though. Oil looks low ish, but in-between the two dots, & no oil light. I'll go buy a litre down Halfords tomorrow though if necessary & top it up a bit - see if the noise goes away.

I won't go into too much detail cos it might be immediately obvious to somebody what the problem is.

Check it out.

Thanks

Lol. It's your exhaust boss.

No, defo not that though. It's that lower pulley that's turning. Whether it's a bearing, or something else, I don't know.

if its not the exhaust and its the lower crank then that is a problem. Double check the exhaust at the mani/downpipe and flexi section.

To me it sounds like you have dropped a big end bearing. Take it to a garage.could be an exhaust blow.

Sounds like this is going to be lower crank to me. Don't think it's the exhaust. Car still drives fine, and when I pull away in 1st the noise quietens temporarily when under load, then starts up again. Noise is noticeably more prominent at idle, and barely noticeable at all in vtec.

How extensive is a big end bearing problem?
