What's the extra bit on the type-s block for?

Hi guys, having owned a couple of ludes, and having done/helped with engine swaps, I was looking at the back of a complete type-s engine the other day (on a pallet) and noticed something different,
Well two things actually, firstly, on the back of the block itself (behind the sump) there's like an extra part of the transmission, i,m used to a shaft going from the drivers side to where the drive shaft meets it, on this there's no shaft, is this something to do with a different form of LSD? It has a few sensors etc in it too, and the next thing, maybe related, I'm used to having 4 connectors going between the engine wiring loom and the car itself, (at the back of the engine bay passenger side,,,,, erm this has 5! I'm guessing the two things I've noticed are related? And because the car itself has 4, I'm a bit confused what to do,, both engine,s are totally complete down to starter, dizzy, loom, ecu, I'm just a bit confused what to do,,,,,, ?? Any pointers?
