Hey all,
Was starting the car the other day and the oil warning light lingered for a second before extinguishing. I checked the oil level and it seemed fine. Just to be safe i added a litre of oil but the level on the dipstick didn't seem to change. The light still lingers but only a wee flash really before going out.
Thoughts?

Did you check under the bottom of the car for approx a litre of fresh oil afterwards?
I would be a bit perturbed if I slung a litre in and the dipstick level didn't change ...
<edit>Not sure about 5g Ludes, but my Celicas used to have really sensitive oil level warning lights. If you went up a hill on a cold engine, the light would come on. Even with oil up to the top dipstick mark.
I'd have to think that if your oil is up to the mark and there's no leaks, it should be fine. But I'd certainly be canny about putting an extra litre in if it was already up to the mark - most dipsticks are a litre between the low and high marks. You really don't want a litre of extra oil in there.

Very true Angus, a litre of oil and no change is impossible, be careful what your at there, check the level a few times, if in doubt drain the oil and fill with correct amount of oil, and check from there.

Ok, thanks guys.
It really is due an oil change but will need to wait until payday (a couple of weeks). Will leave it to settle for a couple of days and re-check

Aye, but give it a check before next time you drive it ... if it's way up over the top mark on the dipstick, best get your spanner and drain some out.

hate to say this but could it not be that youve just not seen the newly added oil register on the dipstick as its a clear colour - im presuming you checked it just after
its impossible to add a litre of oil and it not to be showing on the dipstick
did you check after turning the engine over and allowing it to settle back down after standing?

That can also be oil pressure it may have just taken a couple seconds to get it up to pressure change the filter ( hemp shortie) is what I use and re check your oil too much can be as bad as too little

A litre's more than the difference between 'min & max' on the stick. I don't see how adding oil is intended to change the pressure either.
If the oil is like tar, then it will take longer for the pressure to build. Due to blow-by in VTEC, Honda oil invariably IS like tar unless it's changed frequently.
