cat just gone

Cat is blowing real loud. Seems to be the body of the cat, but I ain't got the heat shield off for a look. All other pipes are solid.
Few questions: I can get a cheap Cat for 70 quid. It is only 2ltre auto so not too bothered about performance.
Do the cheap ones work?
Can I de cat this model and will it work or be better/worse?
Any other suggestions?. I can get under and do meself ok.

Thanks guys. It is in fact the link pipe between flexi and cat. I made a tube and welded it over the pipe.........silence!
Will figure out best permanent fix later
