Automatic gearbox prob

Post by paul72 » Mon Jun 24, 2013 9:31 pm

Was wondering if anyone knows why my gearbox seems to hesitate slighty more wen it shifts into second gear as all over gears change soft but 2nd gear seems to hesitate making me move forward in seat then it grabs an i go back in seat again . Does it just need gearbox oil change or is it more serious :(

As long as there's no nasty noises or crunches, I'd say just change the gearbox oil & see what you've got. A pretty cheap investigation all told.

Or, get a manual! That's what I'm doing :lol:

I don't know about gearbox oil yet tbh. I've heard Amsoil is good, but there is also a bespoke Honda Gearbox oil too.

I'm sure people will let you know shortly.

But is there much difference in viscosity between Auto & Manual? If any?

I too will be paying attention, as I'll be in the market soon.. ;)

The very best please guys. :)

@Dbo, got an opinion?

changing gear box oil is not as straight forward, if you just drain the box, you still have the same amount if not more left in the pipes and torque converter. you need to drain, refil, and drive, drain, refil, and drive, slowly replenishing the lot.

honda atf, the best.

In my first prelude, I lost second gear altogether :?

Gearbox man said it could be one of 2 things. Either a synchro (easy to change) or something further inside. Whatever it was, it sounded expensive. I was younger, weaker and knew FA about ludes (nothing changes BTW) so I had to get rid. :cry:

Hope you get yours sorted ok :)
