the box had no leak but every 2 weeks it would lose about 1mm off the top and the change into 2nd would feel rough :(

DW-1 is the other, which is now replacing the Z1.

I've read that the DW-1 is better for the older boxes, how true this is I don't know?

Automatic gearbox prob

Post by OEM+ » Tue Apr 28, 2020 4:35 pm

I'd like to use this current lockdown time to do an oil change on my auto gearbox - but I'm having problems using the site search for info... short but important words like 'oil' and 'ATF' are ignored by the search function and, more often than not, links pointing to useful sounding threads aren't working! :lolno:

So, rather than reinvent the wheel with a new thread, I thought I'd resurrect this one. I now understand that changing the gearbox oil isn't as straightforward as changing engine oil - I'd need to do at least a couple of cycles of drain, refill, drive, drain, refill, drive, to slowly purge everything out of the pipes and torque converter.

Can anyone advise what tools are needed for the job, and how many litres of this ATF Oil I'd need to get my hands on in order to do the job properly? I've only ever done an engine oil change before, so I'd appreciate any pointers from the more mechanically-minded while I'm tackling my learning curve!
