New downpipe and cat needed

Post by snike77 » Wed Jun 26, 2013 2:06 pm

Hi

My downpipe has just blown a hole in itself, and i have had someone look at it and the join to the cat is totally corroded and rusted so i have been told i will need a new cat as well

I have seen downpipes for around £50 on ebay, and cats on ebay for around £60

and i have been quoted around £50 labour for the job,

Does these prices seem reasonable, and does anyone know if using these parts bought off ebay is advisable?

Thanks

If you are looking for nothing more than an OEM replacement they will be fine. Not bad prices :D

To help widen your search the 2.0 uses the same CAT as the 97-98 UK 2.2 5th gen. They use different downpipes though.

Ok thanks for the advice

Ive also had a look at a stainless steel twin branch manifold and downpipe on ebay for around £100

Do you think i will have any troubles in having this fitted?

Thanks

I had one like that for my first 2.2 5th gen. It fit fine apart from the mounting bracket did not reach up properly. I think this is a common issue. I just left it hanging and never had a problem with it. You could get a bracket extension made up if the thought bothers you.

I presume the existing manifold heat shield will not fit as its single branch as standard,

So i presume its ok just to leave that off?

Thanks

The exhaust manifold heat shields do not fit after market manifolds. The OEM manifold has the mounting points on it.

I might have a 2nd hand CAT in the shed. If I find it would you like it on the cheap?

Dunno, £25 inc delivery? I'll have to check it is the correct size.
