Balance shaft nightmare

Post by conway00 » Wed Jul 17, 2013 9:51 am

hey guys. new to preludes and new to this forum so.. hello.....

not my car in vid. but EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM.

I have put a retainer on and replaced the seal. but i have not addressed the actual balance shaft being loose.

Need to know if i can leave it like that and will it hold the oil when loose? or is it important to fix?! Car is timed up and ready to go but dont wanna drive it unless i know the crack with the actual shaft. Any H22A nut heads out there no the banter?

apparently i can r leave the belt off but does it not run something else?

need help asap so any imput would be so appreciated.

Cheers lads.

Chris

That's wrong. There's a C shaped retainer missing that looks like a half washer with two bolts either side. It fits into a groove on the shaft near the pulley. The end play on the front balancer shaft should be less than 0.35mm!

what happens if there is this much play? i have left the belts off and just ran it like that and seems ok although its losing oil :( must be losing it from the shaft because of the play it has?
