vtec engagement question.
hey guys, my car reads in mph, so has a converter. vtec engages at 5.2k in 2nd,3rd,4th and 5th. i dont have vtec in first gear at the 5.2k, but.... i was having a session at the traffic light gp with an audi a3 s line earlier and i hit the limit at about 6.5k in first... then all of a sudden vtec kicked in at what i thought was the rev limit in first gear taking me to the red line. and my vtec light illuminated, so my question is why? would it be because i hit the speed range for vtec to engage? also where would be the location of my converter out of interest?

I thought the minimum speed for VTEC was 18mph?
I must be missing something then
