Over heating issues?

Post by bill » Thu Jul 25, 2013 11:14 pm

I have just bought a gen 4 2.2vtec prelude after recently getting rid of my 2.0 4th gen. However the engine on the 2.2 seems to be far too hot compared to the 2.0, even when driven normally. Is this normal for the 2.2 engine bays to be so much hotter?

The radiator hose is almost too hot to touch after driving and i believe the former owner topped the radiator with water. The car only done around 12,000 miles in the last 5 years and after reading other threads i believe it may be the thermostat jammed closed ? However with no mechanical experience i am only guessing. The only other point that may be relevant is that the 2.0 had an ebay induction kit installed. The long silver tubing with a nameless air filter.

Also would anyone fit this to their lude or shoud i shell out and get a half decent kit?

well the standard manifold would have a pressed sheet metal heatshield over it the stainless manifold will show the pipes as they are normally polished or chromed also the standard manifold is iron its one of the first things you notice when you swap from a standard manifold to a stainless one there is more heat in the bay and the engine heats up quicker
