what can I do to a 5g vti vtec 97 automatic lude? I know being automatic restricts what power gains you could potentially with a manual but since this is what I have i would appreciate some feedback on parts i can apply to my car without damaging it?

Short answer none. Auto ecu are not chippable sorry.

you can do whatever you want to an auto lude everything that can be done to a manual can be done to an auto except chipping and a standalone ecu you can even turbo it with a piggyback ecu

aright cool! well im sure you guys know about Hondas early auto gearbox issues! so if i was to turbo it would this just fry the transmission? would intake make a difference?

how much would you be talkin all in for turbo kit extra ecu etc ? :o

start out with the basics buddy airfilter change it for a k&n or similar remove the resonator get a decent manifold do a good service and valve clearances then go from there but if it was me I would improve the chassis to make better use of the power you have and do a good thorough service then filter and manifold and exhaust

turbo build can run you over a grand as a budget build depends how far you want to go really

that's sound advice man im well keen on getting some extra power out of it cos i know with time and a bit of cash these cars are the jobby. in terms of k&n ive looked for one but none seem to fit 5g?! would i need a specialist to do these things resonator, manifold etc or would your everyday mechanic be able?

I would reccomend a manual transmission conversion to get the best out of the lude.

Then as mecutio mentions - start with the basics.

Then look into head work, cams, port and polish, inlet mani, exhaust etc

It gets very expensive so it depends how much power you want, what your going to do with it. i.e. track days and used as a daily and how reliable you want it

Alot of my friends have moved on from Honda's as they want power/torque so most of them have gone german but i always adore honda engineering even with the lack of torque and the lust for more power it always gives me a smile when i drive my lude :)

you don't know how many people have said that to me prelude-22! lol I totally agree with you but that's a serious amount of work needed just to get it to fully manual!

I enjoy auto lude as its a chilled ride but with the great vtec power! I just feel with a few mods it could give just that wee bit more if you get me? but being very new to car mods and only know so much mechanical knowledge, finding it hard to find right parts and know what steps to take. thanks for the advice though man I'll look into it more.
