not getting up to temperature! advice needed please?

Post by crigal.bb6 » Sat Aug 10, 2013 5:29 pm

Got in my car this morning at 6 running late for work, so thought i would give it a some to make up lost time i notice straight away that the car wasnt up to temperature as i was in a hurry and wanted it to be warm so i could give it some.
Checked rad and it has lost water from a really slow leak that i have known about for awhile so i topped it up. Not much water was needed just top pipe was empty. Never had to put that much in before. Didnt fix the problem anyway. Still not getting up to temp. Do we think this is a air pocket? How do i check it isnt?
Thanks.

If you have hot air out the blowers there is no air. Also another problem could be your thermostat

This time of the year, surely a thermostat problem would just mean that it takes slightly to warm up?
The sender unit might be at fault.
How long after starting up did you check the level? Was the water at least warm?

My link is a bit long winded. Long story cut short, my radiator blew up. Put a new one in then I had a problem, engine would take ages to heat up. Then it got worse and worse and wouldn't heat up half way at all. Had to change the radiator thermostat. Don't worry it's really really easy to fit a new one. I'd get yourself a new radiator if its the original one and then change the thermostat which is quite cheap be careful which one you get depending on your engine model because there's two sizes available.

Oh and while I'm thinking about it. @jjmartin349571 is selling some wind deflectors as you want them in your signature.

Don't knock it!
If you've only checked the coolant when it's supposed to be cool, you won't know if the info to the temperature gauge is right.
It's happened before ...
