as im sure some of you are aware iv been having some issues with my '99 VTI tiptronic, well iv done an oil change and it come out black as night. but im beginning to think its more of a control fault. as you change from one gear to another there is a delay which if you have your foot on the accelerator will cause the revs to climb however when the gear does engage it bites hard with no slip at all so im thinking its not the friction plates. now there has also been a new development in the problem whist driving along using the 'manual' controls if you take your foot off the accelerator whist in 3rd or 4th the box appears to change to 2nd!! whist still showing 3rd or 4th on the gear display?! the box has never overridden me in the past!
any ideas? could this be a sensor fault or wiring fault?
any help would be amazing as im due to be driving to work tomorrow
p.s just found this on ebay could it be this and would it be worth replacing it as its cheaper than a box?

The solenoids etc in the gearbox are all lubricated and operated by the ATF in the box man. If the ATF was like sludge, there may still be crud in there, I'd suspect another flush after a few hundred miles being of more benefit than a new control unit.

I wouldn't think it'd be getting cooked, but I know it takes a lot to clear all the old fluid out. A simple drain and refill catches just over half the old fluid, so you'll still have a lot of bad stuff in there.

now iv just been trolling thru the forum and found the proper procedure for toping up the A/T i wasn't aware of this before i did mine and simply drained it and then toped it back up.When i first drove the car after the change it still changed up through the gears but as you can read now it doesn't.
could this be my problem? or played apart in it?
is it possible to air lock the system?
sorry for all the questions just i need this sorted and quick or it could be the end of the lude for good

try checking the solenoids they have a gauze filter could be clogged but yes the atf drain procedure has to be followed but I don't know how critical it would be tbh

yep that's them buddy with the car idling just run it up and down the box obviously with your foot on the break see if it restores your gears
