Heatwrapping standard exhaust manifold on a 3rd gen 4ws
Heatwrapping standard exhaust manifold on a 3rd gen 4ws
Evening fellow luders!
Just wondering if anyone has any pictures of the standard exhaust manifold heatwrapped on a 3rd gen 4ws? As the heatshield is ugly as fook..
(I think the b20a7 in the 4ws has a different manifold to other 3rd gens, am I right?)
Also, has anyone got any advice or things to watch out for when removing the manifold? Is it just a jack-up, undo, drop-out job?
Thanks in advance,
Felix

Imo, if your going to that much effort, you might as well upgrade the manifold. Do you have plans to do that ultimately?

And in fairness, I'm not quite sure how you plan to wrap it anyway - given it's shape?
Just saw this pic on Hondaboy's thread (which you commented on).

You know what I mean? Could always hammerite it instead I guess?

Nah no plans to upgrade, I just want to make the engine bay look nicer.
I've done it twice before, and it's a half hour job max (not including removing the manifold - hence the question about how hard it is).
I see what you mean about the shape, but if I grind off the heatshield mounts it could be done, though it might look odd given that the pipes are only seperate from each other for a few inches..

That's what I mean.
Clean it up then paint it I reckon. If you're defo not going to upgrade.
And it won't be difficult to remove (theoretically).
Depends on whether the nuts are seized or not I guess.
In terms of technique, detach the downpipe from the centre section first, then try removing the manifold from the block. This should make things easier. You may also need to separate the mani & downpipe too. See how it goes.

Heard bad things about heatwrapping stock manifolds, in a cracking due to heat kind of way. Better to refurb the heatshield perhaps?

Yeah, that would be a good option also. No good reason to have a stock mani on display anyway..
