It does not recognise Dien Bien Phu 1,571-2,293 dead 5,195 – 6,650 wounded1,729 missing11,721 captured (of which 4,436 wounded)8,290 POW dead after battle.
That was a swear word among others that I got from a 90 year old French Para I was chatting to a couple of weeks ago.
Never underestimate the French Soldier since WW2 he is a different person.

But yes Dien bien phu was a hard lesson to learn but the legion is defined by its defeats you never see footage of the wins and they are hardly reported even in France.
