Hey all!

Been a long time since I’ve been on here.

I appreciate @Drax for contacting me direct. As a result I ordered a fresh batch of chips and sockets and dusted off my old kit.

I see there are a few others interested. Let me know in this thread, or email me on wobwyatt@hotmail.com or FB message me: https://m.facebook.com/profile.php?id=707896194

Whatever’s easiest.

Any questions fire away.

Thanks,

Rob

Hi Rob!

I know this thread has been a little silent lately but I'm going to fire my question here anyway :)

I have a socketed EDM P13 ecu (no knockboard), I would like to convert it back to stock, any idea where I should go from here? I'm currently running on a chipped P28 but I would like to have an "original" ecu, just in case :)

It's unknown what rom is in it but currently it functions like this:
It's revlimit is at approx. 8200/8300
It's vtec (if I remember correctly) engage rpm is approx 4500 rpm.

It's a P13-G00 for MT and it runs a JDM H22a in a european vtec bb1 prelude.

Regards,
William

You need someone to burn a stock map onto a chip and swap it out. The problem will be finding the map and someone to burn it for you.

It might be easier to just find a new ECU.

I have a few JDM P13 ecu and one of Robs V2 spoon chips (not yet fitted) if that helps.
I can dig out all the JDM P13 ecu's out and see what's what... :)

To convert your p13 back to stock, just cut the jumper marked with J1, no need to pull the chip out. But that will revert you to EDM basemap, if I understand correctly you need JDM basemap?

How's cutting a jumper wire going to revert it back to stock if it's been socketed and the original chip with map has been removed?

Your right though, a JDM P13 ECU would be a better fit since the engine has been swapped out.

Most old chips are hard to find - the newer chip is likely to be double sized (or more). Lower half of the 'address space' will be one map (eg location 0-16k), then right after it will be the the other map (location 16k-32k). By removing a pull up/pull down resistor link (on the highest address line), the chip effectively 'switches' from one map to another, because you are 'overriding' the address selection lines to the rom, and the ECU is blind to this. This of course relies on the chip having the correct maps burnt in to begin with which is anyones guess.

I tried to lookup the datasheet for the mk5 ECU, but the CPU and EPROM are contained together with no documentation, so not as easy to chip as the earlier ECUs where the ROM is separate :(

I missed the part where he said old chip was removed. I wasn't aware that P13 had different boards from P28 where removing original chip was not necessary. To be honest I am still not sure because I haven't seen the borad.

One of the differences between a P28 and a P13 is that there is no room for an extra eeprom, therefore there is no jumper and the original rom was swapped.

I'm looking for possibilities, I'm quite resourceful when it comes to electronics and burning eeproms is not new to me but I've never worked with roms on an ECU. I might be interested in having a JDM P13 though!

Get the JDM ECU as suggested if you can, it'll be a better fit for the engine and you'll get the knock board as well.
