In my opinion the chat takes away from what makes forums great, the ability to post something crap and then have the other person respond etc...

I think the chat would take away from it, we'll wait and see I suppose :D

Yep, that was my fear about the chat room...

Just be aware, all conversations are logged within the database :shock:

There are several ways to get IRC up and running, but it really depends on your preferred operating system. First up, software choices:

Windows:
Trillian - http://www.trillian.im/
Pidgin - http://www.pidgin.im/
Hexchat - http://hexchat.org/

Linux:
Empathy - Likely installed, or in the software repositories
Pidgin - In the software repositories
xchat - Likely installed, or in the software repositories
irssi - My preferred option, likely installed, or in the software repositories

OS X
Adium - http://adium.im/
Colloquy - http://colloquy.info/
