Never thought i would say it but really thinking about selling my 4th gen 2.3i and buying this 5th gen. Allways will be a 4th gen man, but i saw this on ebay and instantly liked it. Also has to be an automatic, as i only have an auto licence.
Whats peoples thoughts? Good or bad idea?

I had my lude valued and with the additions i have done to it, i would be able to catch around £600 at very tops i think. Someone who likes it will pay the money, but someone who wants it dead standard would totally knock me down probably to about £250-£300 quid which is stupid considering what i have done to her. Is it worth it do you think? Either way i am likely to make a loss on money, but that seems the way with ludes these days? Brought the 2.3 for £900 3 years ago now, and because i hadnt done my research at that point, i was told i had paid over the odds for it by some way, but we all know how it is, as we just fall in love with the ludes when we frist get them, well me anyway!

Dont want to be fooled on the price again on the 5th gen, so some help would be great here.
Noticed though the lude i am intrested in buying has done over 120k miles which is 12-13k more than my current 4th gen!! Should i go for it or stay well clear, really could do with some advice peeps. Cheers Will

Only 3 months MOT for a dealer car is a bit poor - bear in mind it will come with no tax, either.
Front drivers side tyre is flat in one of the pics, suggests it might have a slow puncture? (ok in one of the others)
5th gen auto boxes don't seem to have a great reliability rep, but whether that's unfounded or not, I don't know...

Ok Cheers wurly. I will anyway have a good look into it and get as much info from them as possible. If the auto box is not good then i most probably wont buy it, as last thing i want is the auto box dying on me. Yes 3 months MOT is bum droppings, i will see again what i can do. Will go up there and have a good look at it, and take someone with me who knows all about ludes. I do like it, but can not risk anything bad with it as it will be my daily driver when i have sold my 2.3

well im going to be selling my 97 auto lude with 0nly 104,000 on clock!! hehe The auto box is is a hit or a miss after I done masses of research it all come down to how well kept they were services etc also sometimes things that sound majorly wrong with them actually only tend to be oil change or solenoids gauze cleaned. its amazing what clean oil can do!!

Yeah, from what I hear it's all done to service history with the autoboxes and you're looking for how frequently the oil has been changed. If there's no history then stay well clear as chances are it could fail on you tomorrow for all you know.
I'm a bit confused as to why you've chosen this one though... It's just a bog standard UK auto 5th gen with average to high miles on it. The price is ok, not a bargain though, so is it just that it's close or something. I'd say you could probably hold on for better.

Although thinking about it, if you're providing him with a boot, does he even need a spoiler?...
Either way, it seems mad to sacrifice a VS spoiler when you can sacrifice an OEM one that's never going to be used
Let me know bud.

I surpose because its automatic, and i havent seen many of these in auto on ebay? I could be wrong though? And yes is not to far to travel and see. Either way its a day out even if i just look at it. But as you have said there deffo will have to be full service history for it, which i will enquire about first. If its not right then its not ment to be-and am happy to wait for the prefect one to come up with. Also i surpose the 187bhp compared to my current 160bhp swings it abit to!

This is just up the road from where I'm working atm, I could pop in to have a quick once over and check the paperwork at lunchtime one day this week if you like.
My initial thoughts based just on the advert however:
- As mentioned above, it's bog standard with nothing special about it.
- Possible scuff on drivers side corner rear bumper.
- To be frank, a lazy advert with no information, so what else aren't they telling you?
