Post by Nik_L » Sat Feb 23, 2013 11:52 pm

Ok so need to change a front wheel bearing on the car, does any1 have any guides or tips on doing said job??

Will it need pressed out on a hydraulic press?? Or can it be done in place on the car?? What all needs to be removed in order to press it out??

I would reccomend a garage do it - like PAW

My Seat Arosa needed their front bearings changed. A mate of mine works at Northway Tyres and they were luckily enough to have a machine press.

Unfortunately the bearing was seized into the hub and it wouldnt come out. I couldnt drive the car was the current beairng was completely destroyed inside the carrier and it wouldnt come out. That was pretty much a whole day of faffing around, cant imagine what his manager was thinking.lol. I had to buy a pair of second hand complete hub carriers instead in the end

Not sure how bad the preludes get but probably be best for a garage with proper equipment to take on the job

PAW are a bit far from me, and for a generic press out, press in job, i have a few local garages who can do it easily enough.

What all needs to be removed 1st?? Does it come out as a complete hub??

For the front the bearing is separate, the rear is 1 unit thingy.

Pm a few guys on here - they are breaking their 5th Gens so you should be able to snap up a complete hub easily - then installation should be fairly easy
